From the article:
TERF ideology at its core is simple and bigoted: trans women are not women, and their demand for inclusion, and even their very existence, is a danger to women. Beck and others like her are not a new phenomenon—while the term TERF dates to 2008, their ideological underpinnings go at least as far back as the 1960s, to the advent of the women’s liberation movement and in particular to a strain of political lesbianism that staunchly advocated for separatism.

Another term for these groups is “Gender Critical Feminist.”
This is somewhat personal to me, obviously. These groups of “radical feminists” are groups that spout feminist rhetoric, but they seem to only care about one issue. That transgender people do not exist, and they must aggressively prevent transgender people, women specifically, from getting access to equal rights under the law, and access to women’s spaces.
This union between the Right Wing and TERF groups has been going on for years, and been rising in prominence.
I see these people online daily. I don’t seek them out, but I do spend time in transgender spaces for people that are looking for answers, camaraderie, or advice.
It is almost a daily occurrence where gender critical feminists TERFs seek out and attack members of the community. If you post as a transgender woman, about a topic where you are suicidal, it’s almost guaranteed one of these people will start posting to you with a toxic sludge of horrific comments. This includes encouragement to kill yourself, or endless posts about chromosomes, and how you aren’t a real woman.
Gender Critical TERFs also hit the communities for partners of transgender individuals, that are seeking advice on how to proceed when they have a partner come out as trans. They focus on fanning the flames of panic, and attempting to disrupt those relationships, or recruit the partner to their sad hate community.
They specifically seem to target transgender women. Trans men are like a sad anomaly to them. They seem to think we are all lesbians (because they seem to deny trans men can sleep with men?) who are overwhelmed by self loathing by the patriarchy.
For feminists, they seem awfully quiet about other feminist issues like equal pay, reproductive rights, or sexual assault. The only platform they seem to have is the denial of transgender people, and the willingness to organize to do so.
They are some of the most virulent attackers of transgender people. In the years since I’ve come out, I have seen these women aggressively out high school students and organize “protests” that said high school student was using the bathroom at a school. I’ve seen them pressure transgender women that were already suicidal to commit suicide. They have outed transgender women to their employers, and attempted to get them fired.
They are not feminists. They are bigots that spend their time and energy attacking an already extremely marginalized group.
