A former college admissions dean explains the mundane reverse affirmative action that lets the rich send their kids to the front of the line.

From the article:

For example, the majority of applicants are women, but admissions committees seek to establish a gender balance, which means that men face much lower standards than women. On top of that, the low academic standards for admitting students with exceptional athletic ability favor men, as men’s teams are more valued than women’s teams.

But not all men are created equal. According to England, admissions committees routinely refuse to consider admitting Black athletes under the athletic programs; instead, these candidates are deferred to the colleges’ “diversity programs,” ensuring that mediocre white men can be admitted even if they’re less academically qualified than their female counterparts, and even if they’re less athletically qualified than Black athletes applying at the same time.

It’s quite an affirmative action program for mediocre white dudes!

This is by Buck McRichypants, who is a complete moron, suddenly has a degree from a prestigious college, and is in a position of leadership at work that he is obviously too stupid to actually do right out of college.

If you have the money to play the game, you get all the benefits.

Friends of Mississippi Waffle House shooting victim say the incident was a hate crime

From the article:

Friends of the 22-year-old victim say she walked into the Southaven Waffle House and was verbally abused by a stranger, simply because she’s a transgender woman.

Southaven Police confirm an argument followed and that when the victim tried to walk away, the suspect shot her.

“She was shot in her leg, both of her legs. And the bullets went through her leg and broke her femur,” said the victim’s friend. “She’s gonna be okay. She’s got to have surgery. She’s gonna get a rod and a plate put in her leg.”

I’m not holding my breath for a hate crime designation because Mississippi is a hellhole for LGBTQ rights, and their hate crime statute does not cover sexuality or gender identity.

Reproductive Health is Abortion Rights

From the article:

Despite the danger their laws pose, the anti-abortion Republican lawmakers behind these bills hardly seem interested in learning fact from fiction, even when it means the death or punishment of women as collateral damage for their ignorance. Just on Wednesday, anti-choice lawmakers in Ohio introduced a wide-ranging bill that would all at once ban insurance coverage of abortion, prohibit access to pretty much all birth control, and institute a misguided measure regarding ectopic or tubal pregnancies involving conception outside the womb.

Per the bill’s male writer, abortions for these ectopic pregnancies would be prohibited because the embryo could be “removed from the fallopian tube and [reinserted] it in the uterus,” wholly ignoring women as human beings beyond their reproductive systems. For one thing, as experts have pointed out, this imagined health procedure just … doesn’t exist, and for another, following the same anti-science reasoning, the bill would also prohibit birth control methods like pills, IUDs, and other hormonal contraception by equating any birth control that could act to stop a fertilized egg from implanting to the uterus with abortion.

Emphasis is mine. That isn’t even fucking possible. It’s just like that stupid “abortion reversal” that is all fucking made up lies. It’s not fucking medically possible.

The most stark part of this is that the bill prohibits actual birth control. It was never about reproductive options. It was always about punishing women for having sex.

Fuck them.

Alabama Abortion Law: Lawmakers Outlaw Nearly All Abortions In The State : NPR

From the article:

The Alabama Senate passed a bill Tuesday evening to ban nearly all abortions. The state House had already overwhelmingly approved the legislation. It’s part of a broader anti-abortion strategy to prompt the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider the right to abortion.

It would be one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the United States. The bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform abortions at any stage of a pregnancy, unless a woman’s life is threatened or in case of a lethal fetal anomaly.

The vote was 25-6, with one abstention.

Doctors in the state would face felony jail time up to 99 years if convicted. But a woman would not be held criminally liable for having an abortion.

The point is to force this to go to the Supreme Court, and try to overturn Roe vs Wade, and create a precedent to outlaw abortion in total.

I fucking hate the South right now. There might be good people that live there, but it’s a fucking hellhole for women’s rights, LGBTQ people, and racial inequality.

This is a big deal. This constant unrelenting attack on reproductive rights is exhausting and cruel.

I can guarantee you that women with money, like upper class white women, will not be half as effected. They will just pay the funds to fly to a different state and have it done. (The only moral abortion, being their abortion.)

It will be the poorer women, without the means, that will be stuck. In this case, it will also be the victims of rape and incest.

CBD oil is legal in Florida. The woman is 69 and suffering from a chronic illness. This is the threat we are supposed to be worried about? Seriously?

Texas Officer Shoots, Kills Unarmed ‘Pregnant’ Black Woman Outside of Her Apartment Complex

From the article:

During said struggle, the officer used his taser, which was allegedly wrestled out of his control by the woman and used on the officer. The officer then jumped to his feet and fired five shots, hitting her at least once. In a video of the altercation circulating online, the woman can be heard yelling “Why are you harassing me?” and “I’m pregnant!” prior to being shot.

The officer shot a pregnant woman, that clearly told him she was pregnant, five times while she was on the ground. FIVE FUCKING TIMES.

This is so fucking wrong.

Why desperate Americans are driving to Canada in caravans for insulin | CBC News

From the article:

Nystrom, who has Type 1 diabetes, requires insulin to stay alive. She is on a type of fast-acting insulin called NovoLog, which costs about $300 US a vial. The Canadian equivalent, NovoRapid, is about $30 per vial. She was shocked to learn about the price difference.

Source: Why desperate Americans are driving to Canada in caravans for insulin | CBC News

How long a vial lasts is dependent on your needs. Sometimes a vial of insulin only lasts a week.

The very notion that diabetics have to caravan to Canada to buy insulin to literally stay fucking alive is so wrong.

Here’s another instance from the article:

Lija Greenseid, who organized the Caravan to Canada, lives in St. Paul, Minn. Her 13-year-old daughter has Type 1 diabetes and she and her husband buy insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

Last year, she said they spent $13,000 US just to obtain health insurance — and then $14,000 US out of pocket before her daughter’s insulin was covered.

“It’s a huge amount of money for us. Because of that, we didn’t put any money into our kids’ college savings accounts or put anything into retirement for the year. We really just had to pay our health-care bills,” Greenseid said.

“So now you can see why we do crazy things like go across the border and buy insulin.”

This should not be happening. People should not being going through extraordinary measures just to keep their kids alive. It should not bankrupt people to life.

I used to be a nurse. In my first career I have seen what happens to people that ration their insulin. Nothing good.

This is just wrong.
